Review of Events for 2010/Membership Application Up Coming Events for 2011 · 25th Anniversary Year for the Club 1986/2011 Have the years advanced quickly! More details to come…… · Monthly Shades of the Past Meetings are always held on the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Adult Community Center in Marshall, MN commencing at 7:00 P.M. Past Events for 2010 · Annual Car/Truck/Tractor/Motorcycle Show was held on Saturday, June 5th in the Running’s Marshall Store parking lot. Despite the rain, 228 vehicles registered for the show, an all time high for the “Shades of the Past” club. There was great music, goody bags for all registrants, dash plaques and a generous level of door prizes were given. On the previous evening, Friday night, 158 vehicles participated in the “town cruise” with hundreds and hundreds of people and families watching from their front yards, sidewalks and curbs to watch the cars of the past rumble by. · Ice Cream Social and Cruise Evening with the Senior Citizens. On August 24th, our club hosted and ice cream social and cruise night with the senior people of Boulder Estates and Hill Street Place. Root Beer and Orange Floats were served to all by the Shades of the Past members & spouses. Many Cruises were given and you should of heard all the stories from the past. “My family had a car just like this”; “Oh, did we have good times in the back seat of a sedan just like this and even the same color”; “Back in the days, $1 of gasoline would allow us to ‘cruise the main drag’ all night”; “Man, I wish we still had that ’56 Ford convertible”. Our club especially enjoyed this event… giving back to our seniors and community. · Summer Picnic. This year, the Nuytten’s hosted our summer picnic at their lake home on Lake Cochrane. They named this event “The Highway 68 Cruise”. They also invited dozens of additional ‘car buffs’ who joined in along the way. Socializing was awesome and the food was terrific….loved those pork sandwiches! · Club Planned Cruises to various events. This year the club traveled to the Spomer Museum in Worthington, MN and what a treat that was as it’s loaded with things to see. We also traveled to the car shows of; Vintiques Car Show in Watertown SD, Ghent Belgium/American Days Car Show, St. Peter Car Show & Swap Meet and the Willmar Car Show and Swap Meet. · Charity Drive for Prairie Home Hospice. At our car show, raffle tickets were sold for a free standing basket ball set up and a metal pedal car that were donated. All proceeds went to Prairie Home Hospice. · PPG Painting Seminar. Nearly two dozen car buffs traveled to the Twin Cities to attend this one day seminar. Training started with proper metal preparation and continued in detail through the actual painting processes. Additional books and tapes were available for purchase. Many good comments were given by the attendees. · Big Cash Raffle. Our club sold tickets as a fund raiser to strengthen our financial balance sheet, enabiling the club to do more fun things with its’ members and with/for the community. A total of $4,000. in cash was drawn and dispersed during the car show awards. A young college student won the $1,000. And was she ever excited! · Christmas Party. Each year, our members gather at a club volunteer’s home to celebrate the season. Prizes are drawn to the lucky winners. Good food and refreshments are abundant. And so is the gab. · SkyFest Air Show. Our club participated with a showing of our classic cars at the Marshall airport. This was a two day affair and thousands of people attended. · Downtown Marshall Crazy Days Promotion. 3rd Street was blocked off and made availble for the Shades of the Past classic cars to park and display during their “Back to the Fifties” theme promotion. Many shoppers stopped to see the cars of old and of course there was plenty of visiting. · Wedsnesday Night Cruises. Every other week, car buffs cruised to the Hitching Past restaurant in Marshall. They provided the 50’s music and had drawings for gift certicates to “cruisers”. · Membership Drive. This past year, the club nearly doubled its’ membership.
